The road to love, marriage and family for General Hospital ‘s Samantha McCall (Kelly Monaco) and Jason Morgan (Billy Miller) has been almost as bumpy as dealing with Sonny’s business “associates.”

This article contains spoilers for the General Hospital episode that aired Wednesday, December 21 so if you haven’t seen it yet, please do not continue reading.

After getting married and having a son Danny, Sam was dealt a shocking blow when she believed her husband Jason had been shot and killed. But the determined young woman knew that she had to go on, even without the love of her life, for the sake of their son.  Sam fell in love with Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) and considered a future with him. The couple became engaged.

But Jason was alive!  Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) had spirited him away to a private medical facility after the shooting.  And the only other Port Charles resident who knew the truth was ironically Patrick’s wife, Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCullough).  In true soap opera fashion, Jason escapes from the facility only to be struck by a car driven by Ava Jerome (Maura West). Jason’s face was damaged beyond recognition and he suffered memory loss from a brain injury (Deja vu).  But the name Jake (the name of his son with Elizabeth Webber) stood out to him and amnesiac began calling himself Jake Doe.  Jake and Elizabeth begin a romance.  And when Nikolas told Elizabeth the truth about Jake’s real identity, she keeps it to herself for fear that Jason will leave her (again) for Sam.  But the truth does have a way of coming out (thanks Carly).  Sam and Jason are reunited and get remarried.  And to add to their bliss, the pair are expecting their second child.

Sam and Jason wanted to wait until the birth of their baby to learn the sex.  But baby shower planner Maxi Jones (Kirsten Storms) was having none of that.  She manages to steal the sealed envelope from Sam’s purse and give it to the baker of the shower cake: When Sam cuts the cake during the baby shower, pink or blue will reveal the sex of the baby.  However, Sam learns what Maxi is planning so sorry baby shower guests, no cake for you!

As the General Hospital episode concludes, Sam and Jason have decided to cut the baby shower cake. And baby Morgan is a….FADE TO BLACK.
