John, Mary, Dean and Sam…The Winchesters. The beloved family of hunters on Supernatural. But there is another important Winchester family member. And today, she turns fifty.
That’s right, I’m talking about Dean’s beloved 1967 Chevy Impala, who he affectionately refers to as Baby. The car was passed down to him from his dad John and has been an important part in the fight against the supernatural. How many vehicles can say it helped stopped the Apocalypse? I’m guessing a big fat zero.
And poor Baby has taken her share of battle wounds in the process. She was struck by a car driven by a man possessed by demon in the Season One finale “Devil’s Trap.” Overturned by a hoard of demons in the Season Six finale “The Man Who Knew Too Much” as well as driven by Meg into the Sucro Corp sign in the Season 7 “Survival of the Fittest.”
Dean is constantly repairing Baby; wanting to keep her in tip-top shape, but no matter how much he fixes her Baby continues to suffer the hazards of hunting life.
Sam and Dean Winchester showed their love for Baby at an earlier age by carving their initials into her; she was theirs and they were proud of it.
Sam, Dean and Baby a/k/a 1967 Chevy Impala will be remembered for the sacrifices they made protecting the world from evil and we owe them our sincere thanks.
