#PrisonBreak S5Ep7 Wine Dark Sea Review via @stacyamiller85 @PBWritersRoom @PrisonBreak

Prison Break’s latest episode gave us a look at the man behind the conspiracy that kept Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) away from his family.

But before I get into that, I want to offer kudos to the writers for giving us their version of The Odyssey. The last few episode titles were takes on the Homer classic with Michael’s life playing out as both a Greek tragedy and an epic adventure.

In the episode “Wine Dark Sea,” Michael’s Poseidon Adventure continued.  And we get not one, but two reunions for Michael: Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Sucre (Amaury Nolasco). Let’s start with the Michael/Sara one first. I know there are fans out there that have never been into the Sara/Michael romance, citing lack of chemistry that makes them this great couple. And it depends on the viewer watching. Love and romance can be interpreted differently. I enjoy this coupling. The idea that both would sacrifice everything for the other speaks volumes for their love and commitment in my opinion.  And then you throw someone like Jacob a/k/a Poseidon into the mix, and the danger for their happiness intensifies. Because now it’s not just Sara and Michael, they have their son Mike to think about. I’m on the fence about Jacob’s claim that he loves Mike as if he were his own son as he helped to take care of him. Jacob is not above making the child collateral damage to get Sara to do what he wants. If Prison Break gets renewed for another season (and I really hope it does), I hope we’ll learn more about who Jacob is and what motivates his actions.  Because a villain without motivation or an end game just being evil for evil’s sake doesn’t work and makes the character flat. Think T-Bag. We learned what made Theodore Bagwell tick, why he became the man he was. There’s no doubt that T-Bag is a bad guy, we can’t excuse his actions but at least we know why he did/does them. With Jacob, things are pretty vague. That being said, I must give a hand to actor Mark Feuerstein. He played the perfect balance of understand husband/conspiracy mastermind. And the Jacob/Sara scenes were intense once she dropped the charade of believing he was a loving husband. Sara went into mama lion mode, she was determined to protect her son at all costs.  I think that’s the best thing about the characters on Prison Break, they don’t care what they have to do for the people they love. They risk and sacrifice everything.  Now let’s talk about the second Scofield reunion.  I totally loved seeing Michael and Sucre reunited in friendship. When Sucre popped up early in the season and offered his help to Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), was declined and faded back into the woodwork, I was disappointed. Why bring the character back for a few words of dialogue for nothing?  And not even put him in a scene with Michael? But I should have had faith in the writers that they weren’t going to let the opportunity for a Sucre/Scofield connection pass them by. And Sucre helping the brothers aboard the ship was great (as was learning of Sucre’s side business Lol).

With only two episodes remaining these season and a lot of story material, I don’t know how the writers are going to do it. There’s no way to get the true story of the conspiracy told in a way that dots the “t’s” and crosses the “i’s”. I have a solution: Season Six renewal.  I know this is not in my hands, but I feel that the cast, crew and writers have done an excellent job with reviving Prison Break, I hate to see it end.
