I had the chance to chat with Tristan D. Lalla, who will be appearing in the new drama series Nurses on Global this month. His character Damien is vital to the nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital. Beyond this series I also had a chance to chat with him a bit about his voiceover experience and some of his other projects. Thank you to Tristan D. Lalla for answering all of my questions.
Could you tell our readers a little about yourself?
Sure! I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. My entire family is from Trinidad in the Caribbean. I’ve always wanted to be an actor, and ironically I am named after my mother’s favourite actor from General Hospital (Tristan Rogers, who played Robert Scorpio).
You will be appearing in Nurses, could you describe the series in your own words?
Nurses takes us into the hectic life at St. Mary’s Hospital. It follows five rookie nurses who are thrown into the realities of what it takes to be an effective team player under high stakes situations.
What is your character Damien Sander’s role?
Damien is the head charge nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. I take care of who will be on what station, and lots of charting. During season one, Damien has a connection with each of the five rookies. Think of him as having the military rigidity of Gordon Ramsay mixed with the tough love of Iyanla Vanzant.
You will also be appearing in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, could you discuss this feature and your role?
This is a feature film directed by Lee Daniels (Empire, Precious) starring the amazing Andra Day as the title character. I play a reporter named Mr. Green who challenges Billie Holiday on her views of what it means to be a role model for young black people at the time.
You have also done voicework, what was it like being part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise?
It’s as incredible as you may think it is. I have worked on eight Assassin’s Creed game titles to date. Most notably in three of the games I am Adéwalé (full voice and performance capture), and I also play the roles of Taharqa, Agaté, and Jumao in the franchise.
Could you tell me about your upcoming horror feature Home?
Home is a feature film from Philip Kalin-Hadju, directed by Adam O’Brien. It follows a couple played by Emily Hampshire (Schitts Creek) and Francois Arnaud (Midnight Texas, The Borgias) who come face to face with terror in the midst of a family tragedy. I play Rob, who is Francois’ best friend and neighbour.
Do you have any other projects you’d like to share?
My favourite recent projects are Long Shot (alongside Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron), The Moodys Christmas (with Jay Baruchel and Dennis Leary), and Bad Blood Season 2 (starring Kim Coates). Check them out!
