It was a Redbox kind of weekend. First up was The Conjuring 2 starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Frances O’Connor, Simon McBurney, Franka Potente, Madison Wolfe, Lauren Esposito, and Benjamin Haigh. This is following the events from The Conjuring, continuing the stories of Ed and Lorraine Warren. This review is mostly spoiler free.
I am a huge believer in ghosts. Anyone who knows me, knows this. I go ghost hunting, I’ve captured pictures, I’ve seen them, I’ve felt them, I’ve known things about their lives I shouldn’t have known, shoot if you follow me on Twitter you know my account has even gone ghost over the last year….the list goes on and on. I never expect anyone to believe me. To each their own, ya know. I have a fascination with the unknown. Being who I am always drives me towards the creepy ghost/demon movies. I really love the ones based one true events. I know that Hollywood puts on a show for those most part, I mean you have to keep the audience in their seats right. But I also know the story itself, isn’t all made up, and after watching these events I like to look up what really happened. That being said, I haven’t done that as of yet with this movie, I just watched it, I would like to share the film with you though.
In 1977, the church enlists the help of the Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators, as they need proof that a family in Enfield, just north of London, is actually haunted and not playing a hoax. Lorraine is reluctant to go and help for she has seen Ed’s death while visiting the Amityville house after the DeFeo murders. Ed talks her into it being that it is an 11-year-old girl inflicted with the spirit.
Upon arriving they meet Peggy Hodgson, a single mother of four, who swears her house has evil in it. They also meet Janet, Peggy’s 11-year-old, who the ghost has been talking through. The house and Janet have every sign of possession, however, Lorraine can’t feel or see the spirit. Over a few nights, really insane creepy things happen. Like the girl waking up in a locked room after tying her arm to her mother’s bed. Though the Warrens completely believe something is after the family, they just have no proof for the church.
And unfortunately, the more they try to help this girl, the more Ed becomes the next target…..
Will Lorraine’s vision come true?
I absolutely loved this movie. Great story, perfect acting, best actors. It had some creepy part that literally made me jump. I highly recommend this flick.
Fun Fact: Patrick Wilson is from my area. I grew up watching his father John Wilson, now retired, and his brother Mark Wilson on Fox 13 Tampa Bay.
