The Pearsons and This Is Us fans said goodbye to beloved mom and matriarch Rebecca, who finally succumbed to her battle with Alzheimer’s. Brave until the end, Rebecca’s thoughts were for her children as she encouraged them not to lose themselves and their dreams because of the disease she faced.

Mandy Moore gave tour de force Emmy worthy performances showing Rebecca’s strength throughout a death sentence.

Rebecca Pearson is an unforgettable character who will earn a place among the top television moms of all time.

Dear Rebecca,

You had the voice and heart of an angel. It was your caring, spunk and talent that made Jack fall in love with you the moment he saw and heard you sing.

I think for Jack it was love at first sight and he knew someday he would make you his wife.

When your son Kyle died, you experienced a loss no mother should face. But instead of letting it destroy you, you opened your heart to a baby abandoned at a fire station: Randall. And thus, The Big Three was born. Kevin, Kate and Randall were as different as three children can be. But you embraced their differences like any good mother by encouraging them to be the best people they could be. It was challenging, but you rose above with charm and grace.

Your relationship with Kate was typical of most mother daughter relationships. It was filled with love, misunderstandings and resentment. But she was your daughter. And for as hard as it can be for mothers and daughters, it’s a bond like no other.

It was the reason you chose Kate to make decisions for you when your health declined from the Alzheimer’s if husband Miquel passed before you.

When a senseless fire (caused by a crock pot of all things) took Jack away from you and the children, you knew you had to be strong for your kids. Fortunately you had the love and support of family friend Miquel, who eventually became your husband.

Alzheimer’s is a disease that robs a person of their identity. But you were Rebecca Pearson… you were a fighter and would look Alzheimer in the eye and let it know it wouldn’t take away who you were. Wife. Mother. Friend. Singer.

Thank you Rebecca Pearson for showing obstacles are roadblocks that you go through that build your character and make you better than you thought you could be.

We’ll miss you.
