After watching Jess Warner’s demise on Wentworth, I often wonder if she had been given the chance, what would she have said to Doreen?

Jess Warner kidnapped Doreen Anderson’s baby and because she was mentally unbalanced, intended to end the baby’s life to help him find peace. She was stopped by Governor Joan Ferguson and met her own demise instead.

This writer decided to put herself inside Jess’ head and offer the following fictional letter from Jess to the baby’s mother Doreen.

Dear Doreen,

I know you are sick with worry about Joshua, but I want to let you know that he’s okay. I promised I’d look after him and that’s what I’m doing.  I can’t believe you chose Liz over me as his caregiver.  I was there for you during your entire pregnancy even before Liz or anyone else knew you were preggers.  Who was it that gave you the urine sample to use to fool the guards?  Okay, maybe using Maxine’s sample wasn’t the smartest idea.  And leaving the booze for Liz was only to prove to you how unfit she was.  But even after she kept showing up in drunken stupors, you STILL chose her over me. Why Doreen, why did I mean so little to you when you meant the world to me?  I would have done anything for you.

I guess I forgot how much people don’t care and how cruel the world can be.  That’s why I want to spare Joshua from this pain.  I want him to feel happy and safe. He’ll be okay Doreen. He won’t have to be in this prison. He’ll be happy. I promise.

Jess
