Once Upon a Time has been a magical journey for viewers and in the episode “Street Rats” that airs October 23, the magical splendor continues taking viewers to “a whole new world.”
When I found out over the summer that the ABC series Once Upon a Time would be introducing the characters of Aladdin and Jasmine this season, it felt as though I found a magical lamp that made a wish of mine come true. Aladdin is my all time favorite Disney movie. In addition to some of the best songs ever recorded for a Disney film, the story of Aladdin is an inspiring one that causes us to look deep within ourselves and love and accept who we are. A poor street rat, Aladdin dreams of bettering himself. And when he finds a magical lamp, Aladdin makes a wish with the Genie inside to be a prince. But the qualities of the newly royal Aladdin turns him into an unlikable person. Then we have Jasmine. She is not your average princess. She’s spunky and determine not to let anyone tell her what to do.
Now, Once Upon a Time are adding these multi-dimensional characters to their narrative. And who better to play Jasmine then the talented Karen David? As Princess Isabella in ABC’s Galavant, David displayed a spunk that made the character endearing. Isabella, like Jasmine, could take care of herself. But how will Once Upon a Time’s Jasmine fare against the dangerous Storybrooke denizens like The Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) and Gold (Robert Carlyle)? Will her love for Aladdin (played by Deniz Akdeniz) help them conquer all? I don’t know what will happen, but I look forward to traveling on this Once Upon a Time journey with Aladdin and Jasmine.
Don’t miss Once Upon a Time episode “Street Rats” airing Sunday, October 23 at 8/7c on ABC.
