When The CW’s Supernatural returns on October 12 for Season 13, viewers will see some new faces. Actor Jeffrey Parise is one of those. He joins the series as a character that appears to be evil and a foe to our hero Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles).
Fans of the long running ABC daytime drama General Hospital are familiar with Parise’s work (Emmy nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on General Hospital) from his portrayal of Carlos Rivera, the henchman to the Jerome mob family. Parise played Carlos Rivera from 2013 to 2016 and the brief role of Carlos’ “good” twin brother Joe in 2016. Carlos was a multi-layered character that wasn’t the traditional villain. Yes, he murdered when ordered by the Jerome family to carry out a hit, but he also displayed extreme loyalty to the Jerome family (Ava and Julian) as well as an overwhelming love for his ex, Sabrina Santiago.
I enjoyed Jeffrey Parise as Carlos. When Carlos was killed, I mourned the loss of this fascinating character but especially the actor who played him, knowing that Parise’s tenure on General Hospital had come to an end. But just like you can’t keep a good bad guy down, a great actor is a commodity that a show doesn’t want to lose. And in true soap opera fashion, Jeffrey Parise returned as Carlos’ twin. I was pleased. Although Carlos was gone, Parise was back to develop a new character. Alas, his returned was short lived. After Sabrina was killed by D.A. Paul Hornsby, who turned out to be a serial killer, Joe departed town with his nephew (Sabrina had given birth to Carlos’ son). And it was bye bye Jeffrey Parise.
So imagine how thrilled I was when I heard Jeffrey Parise would be joining Supernatural. I know the depth he brings to any role, so Supernatural fans are in for a treat! I can’t wait to see what he has in store for Sam and Dean (and viewers). Congratulations Jeffrey Parise on your new role on Supernatural! And like the late great Kim Manners would say “Kick it in the ass!”
Ironically, General Hospital and Supernatural share another actor connection: Matt Cohen, who played Young John Winchester on Supernatural now stars on General Hospital as Dr. Griffin Munro.
