Daytime Emmy Winning Actress Maura West offered General Hospital viewers a standout performance in the episode that aired Thursday, November 29, 2018.
Ever so often when watching a film or television show, there is that one scene that transports a viewer from what they are seeing on the screen and causes them to experience real pangs of emotion based on the power of the performance. Such was the case when watching the Thursday, November 29 episode of the ABC daytime drama General Hospital.
In the scene, Ava Jerome played by Daytime Emmy Winner Maura West realized the horrible truth that her daughter Kiki (Hayley Erin) had been murdered. At the time of Kiki’s death, mother and daughter were estranged due to the fact that Kiki and Ava’s ex-boyfriend Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) had slept together during a one night stand while Ava and Griffin were still dating. Hell hath no fury like an Ava Jerome scorned, she vowed revenge against Griffin and her daughter. But Ava never wanted or imagined losing her daughter in such a permanent way. Sure, Ava wanted Kiki to pay…but not with her life. Too bad Ms. Jerome had no idea who she believes is Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) is really his psychopathic serial killer twin brother Ryan Chamberlain. And to make matters worst, Ryan has developed a fascination with Ava, who is like no other woman he’s ever met. Ryan took Ava’s words that she wished Kiki were gone literal and made certain it happened.
When Ava unzipped the body bag and saw her lifeless daughter’s body, she told Kiki that she (Kiki) had taught Ava a lesson and now Kiki could stop pretending and wake up. It was heart-wrenching watching and listening to Ava pleading with Kiki to sit up. Then, Ava broke down in devastation at the finality of the situation. It was a hard scene to watch and I’m sure many viewers shed their own tears as well.
Kudos Maura West. It’s moments like these that showcase the talent of an actor and reminds viewers why all the accolades and awards are well deserved.
