The Hateful 8, My Thoughts

I had the chance to see The Hateful 8. Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It has quite the all star cast, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell,  Jennifer Jason Lee, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, Bruce Dern, and Channing  Tatum.

So basically this movie is a western that follows a couple on bounty hunters (Jackson, Russell) on their way to the town of Red Rock, to collect a bounty on the head of a despicable woman (Lee). Along the way, a blizzard blows in and they have to take refuge at a local saloon. Upon arrival things don’t seem right with quite a few people around, and classic Tarantino brutality goes down.

It shows the how truly brutal the old west was. The hate for other races, hate between the North and South. Old West gangs and all. It was filmed on old film, with an antique lens, shown in widescreen 70mm panavision.

Now for what I thought. The movie was like three hours long……I do like Tarantino….but gawd! I almost fell asleep like 20 times. It was pointless. I was bored to tears. I was expecting more from this movie and it just didn’t deliver. If you’re looking for action, you’ll be looking a very, very, very long time. When you finally get some action, it’s over. I love the actors and Tarantino, as I’ve said, but this movie was a snoozefest. By the end, I could not get out of the theater fast enough.

I’m guessing hardcore Tarantino fans will no doubt love it, as well as people who really liked Kill Bill. But they should even be prepared for tons of dialogue and lack of action.
