The CW has been getting noticed lately for comedy due to its winning Monday night lineup, Crazy Ex Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin. But there is also another comedy in which fans of The CW fell in love with: Significant Mother.
Significant Mother created by Richard Keith and Erin Cardillo, tells the story of Portland restaurateur, Nate Marlowe (Josh Zuckerman) who returns home after a business trip to discover that his mother, Lydia (Krista Allen) and his best friend, Jimmy (Nathaniel Buzolic) are involved. Worst, Nate’s father Harrison (Jonathan Silverman) has decided he wants his wife back. The comedy offers ripe opportunities for relationship hijinks.
Season 1 of Significant Mother developed a loyal fan following. The creators and cast have been active on Twitter, also live tweeting during episodes. Linda Gray, best known for her portrayal of long-suffering Sue Ellen Ewing in Dallas, played Lydia’s mother, Gammy, in a recent episode to rave reviews.
This show is witty and smart and would be a perfect addition to The CW’s comedy entourage.
I spoke with Creators Richard Keith and Erin Cardillo awhile back and it’s obvious their passion for the show. I believe Significant Mother deserves a second season and the chance to grow its audience.
