The mega coven may not have worked out. But Rowena has us under her spell. And we like it!

Actress Ruth Connell has charmed Supernatural fans for two seasons as Rowena, the mother of King of Hell Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Crowley has used a spell or two himself. It helps being the son of a witch. Yet, Crowley and his Mommy Dearest don’t have a loving relationship. Watching these two battle wits is more like witnessing a Machiavellian waltz of epic proportions. Their power struggles continue. Thankfully, Connell and Sheppard have marvelous chemistry. We can’t get enough of them.

Connell is one of those actresses who enriches any scene with any scene partner. Whether Rowena is keeping the Winchester boys (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) on their toes with her machinations or dealing with Lucifer possessed Castiel (Misha Collins), Connell uses her dramatic skills to enchant Supernatural viewers. She is delightful.

Rowena became an ally of sorts to the Winchesters when she worked with Sam to help translate the Book of the Damned and to remove the Mark of Cain from Dean. In addition, the witch proved instrumental in Season 11’s fight against Lucifer and Amara.

Now that God/Chuck and The Darkness/Amara appear to have mended their fractured sibling relationship and have (at least for now) departed the Supernatural landscape and Lucifer seems to be gone too, what is in store next for Rowena?

Here’s hoping that we see more of Rowena in Season 12. Ruth Connell has bewitched us in the best way possible.
