In two days, the long awaited Gilmore Girls revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year In a Life airs on Netflix.

Since Gilmore Girls ended its run on May 15, 2007, fans have been wanting to see Lorelai and Rory and the residents of Stars Hollow again. These characters were a part of our lives for seven years. We laughed with them, cried with them and cheered them. Lorelai and Rory were the mother and daughter we wanted to be, sharing a rare closeness and bond that made them not only parent and child, but sisters and friends.

The suitors of Lorelai and Rory played a key role in the development of the characters. Each of the guys in their love lives helped them learn something about themselves. The long standing debate in Rory Gilmore’s romantic history has been the ‘Who was Rory’s best boyfriend?’ And the candidates were Dean, Jess and Logan. For this article, let’s talk about boyfriend number two, Jess.

Jess Mariano (played by This Is Us’ Milo Ventimiglia) is diner owner Luke Danes’ nephew. Although on the surface he comes off as a rebellious punk, Jess hides his sensitivity. Rory Gilmore scratched pass the surface and uncovered the caring heart of a writer. Jess and Rory’s love of books drew them together, even though Rory already had a boyfriend in Dean. Their shared interest and undeniable chemistry was noticeable to Dean and he broke up with Rory. However once they officially became a couple, Jess seemed to take their relationship for granted by not following up on plans they’ve made and being less of the traditional boyfriend than Dean. He even left Stars Hollow to chase after his absentee father. Jess’ personal issues put a strain on his and Rory’s relationship and they too broke up. When Jess returned to town as a published author, it was his directness in asking Rory what she was doing with her life that helped her refocus on Yale.

Now, it is years later and we return to Stars Hollow. What will happen with Rory and Jess? Will they find happily ever after? Will the Rory best boyfriend debate end with Jess being the victor? Stay tuned.
