Spotlight: Dean #GilmoreGirls A Year In A Life via @stacyamiller85 #GilmoreGirlsRevival @jarpad

In less than a week, the long awaited Gilmore Girls revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year In a Life airs on Netflix.

Since Gilmore Girls ended its run on May 15, 2007, fans have been wanting to see Lorelai and Rory and the residents of Stars Hollow again.  These characters were a part of our lives for seven years. We laughed with them, cried with them and cheered them. Lorelai and Rory were the mother and daughter we wanted to be, sharing a rare closeness and bond that made them not only parent and child, but sisters and friends.

The suitors of Lorelai and Rory played a key role in the development of the characters. Each of the guys in their love lives helped them learn something about themselves.  The long standing debate in Rory Gilmore’s romantic history has been the ‘Who was Rory’s best boyfriend?’ And the candidates were Dean, Jess and Logan.  For this article, let’s talk about boyfriend number one, Dean.

Dean Forester (played by Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki) was the definition of the boy next door.  He was sweet and kind.  I mean, how many boyfriend’s build you a car?  But unfortunately, Rory and Dean’s romance had several major flaws.  First was Rory’s initial hesitation in saying “I love you.”  Being unable to utter these three important words caused Dean to break up with her.  When Rory finally confessed her love and the two reunited, Luke’s nephew Jess rolls into town.  Although a ‘James Dean Rebel Without a Cause’ type, deep down Jess was a sensitive writer and avid reader like Rory herself.  So the two started a friendship before their feelings for each other emerged.  This resulted in the second breakup for Rory and Dean.  When Rory realized that it was Dean who she wanted to be with after all, he was now married to Lindsay.  Both Rory and Dean couldn’t deny their passion for each other and Rory lost her virginity to her now married former boyfriend.  This caused a rift between she and mom Lorelai. Although mother and daughter made up, Rory and Dean began growing apart as Rory’s college life was something that Dean couldn’t fit in with and they broke up for the final time.

Now, it is years later and we return to Stars Hollow.  What will happen with Rory and Dean?  Will first love mean happily ever after?  Will the Rory best boyfriend debate end with Dean being the victor?  Stay tuned.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In A Life airs November 25 on Netflix.
