Why @NBCThisIsUs and Its Actors Should Win #PeoplesChoiceAwards via @stacyamiller85 #ThisIsUs

Tonight is the People’s Choice Awards and if any series and actors deserve to take home the prize, it’s This Is Us. The show as well as actors Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore have received nominations.

NBC’s This Is Us has won the praise of viewers and critics for being a powerfully scripted and acted drama.  It is a series that touches the emotions of those fans who tune in every week to learn more about the Pearson family. This show is special; a project like this doesn’t come along often. And the accolades are well deserved.

In a short amount of time, This Is Us has already amassed major award nominations such as the Golden Globes and The Critics Choice.  In fact, This Is Us now has as many Golden Globe nominations as NBC’s The West Wing.

The actors of This Is Us have made their characters into real people, which explains why viewers care about the Pearsons. Former Gilmore Girls and Heroes actor Milo Ventmiglia plays Pearson patriarch, Jack.  He is a man who came from an abusive family but has vowed not to repeat his father’s legacy.  He is a great husband to Rebecca and father to Kate, Kevin and Randall.

Mandy Moore as Rebecca is a woman from a judgmental family but seems to put the hardest judgment on herself. Initially not seeing herself as a mother, she has since taken to the role. It fits her as snug as a glove. Like Jack, Rebecca will do anything to protect her children.  This includes lying to adopted son Randall that she knew the identity of his birth father.

Speaking of Randall, Emmy award winner Sterling K. Brown has brought Randall to life as a man who has risen above his humble beginnings to achieve great success.  And despite being abandoned as an infant by birth father William (Ron Celphas Jones), Randall forgave the man and even invited William into his life and home, with the support of wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson).

The other Pearson children, Kate and Kevin have strong story lines and are played by gifted actors Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley. The Pearson twins (although meant to be triplets) each struggle with an identity crisis: Kate over her weight and Kate trying to be taken seriously as an actor.  Kate has boyfriend Toby (played by the charming Chris Sullivan) who has stood by her.

The actors who play the young Pearson children are as talented as their adult counterparts. Lonnie Parker, Mackenzie Hancsicsak and Parker Bates are thoroughly convincing as Randall, Kate and Kevin. Add veteran actor Gerald McRaney in the recurring role as Dr. Katowsky (Dr. K for short) and you have stellar performances. It’s hard to believe that This Is Us has only graced our television screens less than six months!

Congratulations to everyone involved in This Is Us and good luck. Regardless of the results, you ARE the people’s choice!

Update: On Wednesday, January 18, it was announced at TCLA that This Is Us was renewed by NBC for Seasons 2 and 3.
