It’s no secret that Nicki Aycox is an skilled actress: a full resume of film and television credits bear witness to a performer that commands viewer attention in whatever role that she’s in.

It’s no secret that Nicki Aycox is an incredible musician: With the release of her impressive debut EP, Red Velvet Room in 2015, Aycox’s truthful lyrics and powerful vocals reminded us that our pain, regret and scars provide a glimpse of who we are. A clearer picture of our uniqueness is portrayed through the gifts we offer by our compassion and by our talents, and as important, by our resilience.

It’s also no secret that Nicki Aycox isn’t afraid to broach a controversial subject matter, like the benefits of medicinal marijuana, if that means she can educate from a position of kindness, non-judgment and understanding. Aycox’s podcast series “Misunderstood Meri Jane” is raw and uncensored. This mingling of honesty with compassion reflects the kind of person that Nicki Aycox is.

May 26th is Nicki Aycox’s birthday. To celebrate her special day, I wrote her a new song, “My Secret has beautiful wings.”

You’re very special to so many people, Nicki. Please always know that your secret has beautiful wings. Please always allow your heart to soar.

Here are the lyrics to the song:

My Secret has beautiful wings, a birthday song for Nicki Aycox by Tracy Diane Miller
Every little girl wants to be a princess,
Of her own fairy tale,
Yet, instead of that happy ever after,
Why must sorrow seem to prevail?

We can’t ever be perfect,
Because life is no fairytale,
Because life is a process,
We can rise after we fail.

Do you want to know my secret?
How do I survive the pain?
Awash in sprinkles of hope,
The beauty of Charcoal Rain.

My Secret has beautiful wings,
From a cage I choose to fly,
To soar above my sorrow,
To bid heartache goodbye.

I will never say I’m sorry,
When I choose to be me,
Because that is how I find my joy,
That rainbow I will see.

I am the princess of my story,
The lyrics my heart will write,
I live in a Red Velvet Room,
A beauty of much delight.

Do you want to know my secret?
How do I survive the pain?
Awash in sprinkles of hope,
The beauty of Charcoal Rain.
