Carrie Genzel wears many hats, embracing so many creative endeavors that it is quite remarkable that she finds time in her day. Now this actress, writer, producer has added another title to her already impressive repertoire: content creator. Her latest venture, State of Slay, is a blog that seeks to help us discover and appreciate our authentic selves. Read below to find out what Carrie Genzel had to say about State of Slay.

Congrats on your new blog, State Of Slay. What made you decide that the time was right for this venture?

Thank you Tracy. I’m excited to finally have the site up and start SLAYING. State Of Slay has been a long time coming, and a culmination of my journey of self-discovery and healing that I’ve been on over the last 11 plus years. As I’ve continued to find the light on my path, I’ve had the privilege and the honor to help others on theirs on more of a one on one basis, or on a smaller scale, the timing felt right to open it up to everyone who may also be on a similar path or be feeling lost or alone.

State Of Slay is an ingenious name. Can you explain to our readers what you hope will be the mission of your blog and how you plan to fulfill that mission?

State Of Slay is meant to mean that you are living in a state of self love and appreciation of yourself, S – self L – love A – appreciate Y – you. I also liked that the name carries imagery to it that makes you think of someone rising up from the flames like a warrior, or at least it does for me. My mission with the blog is to create a community, I’m a firm believer that there is strength in numbers, and when people of like-minds, or goals, come together anything is possible, in this case, hopefully to lift each each other up to reach our full potential so we can all soar. To start with I’m planning to post two new blogs a week, each will a SLAY OF THE DAY set of questions or tasks at the bottom of them, things that take the topic of the day into action. I’m a firm believer in taking action, without the action nothing changes, so I invite those who read the blogs do the work, it’s work that I’ve done in the past, and in some cases continue to do. As the following grows I will add more content and I may be adding some live video sessions where we can all chat and talk further about what’s being discussed on the blog and in the comments. I also plan, as I am with my social media now, to be very active with those who do leave comments or questions for me to continue the conversations or to get into something more specific. State Of Slay will grow as we all grow together, and I’ll assess how I can make the experience for everyone better.

Your fans know your incredible body of work in film and television. In addition, you are one of those rare performers who engages people on social media in a positive and supportive manner. Although State Of Slay is your brainchild, is it fair to say that your new blog will be a community effort in helping us all understand, respect, appreciate and learn from our individual journeys towards unwrapping our authentic selves?
You hit the nail right on the head Tracy, I love it! I do engage with people on social media as much as I can, and I’ve always tried to put out a positive and inclusive message, I was finding that within my own social media posts and pages there just wasn’t enough room to really get into all of the questions, comments, and messages I was getting about my posts, State Of Slay is a place where I can do that, and others can join me, and also share theirs.

Any final thoughts about State of Slay?
If you are feeling alone, like you don’t have a voice, or misunderstood, I want you to know there is a place for you with State Of Slay. I spent most of my life feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and afraid, State Of Slay is a safe place where I can share my story and the tools I use to live my life as my authentic self today, and it’s also a place where you can share yours and connect with others who may feel the same. You all matter, you all have a voice and deserve to be heard, you all are special, and, whether you know yet or not, you all are SLAYERS!
