Amazing Age #2 returns us into the world of Sam Charleston’s comic book characters which he and his childhood friends were suddenly dropped into at the end of issue #1. Heroes from Sam’s comic continue to appear and inform him that they are going to reunite him with his friends, who have materialized in a different part of this comic book universe.
As the team attempts to reunite the trio they are attacked by The Maulers, a group of dangerous villains. S.A.V.E., Super Actions Versus Evil, is just one one of the many groups Sam created when he was writing these comics. This massive collection of heroes brought Sam and his friends into this world through interdimensional travel after learning that the young people are needed for a much larger war that is about to break out. Another team, J.E.T., The Justice Enforcement Team, suddenly disappeared years ago, but they are not entirely gone. Sam had based these characters on himself and his friends and that means that these heroes still exist, just within them. Our young heroes will now have to take on their imaginary mantels and try and save the world.
I really enjoy Amazing Age and the connection between real world and comic world events is just so much fun. Sam mentions that elements that appear in this issue appear in his own issue 2, which made me smile. Having Sam’s creation be a real thing and that he and his friends are actually heroes within this dimension fills my comic book loving heart with glee. This story brings a smile to my face and I think is the perfect read for comic lovers of all ages. I also really enjoy the different heroes presented in this issue and I look forward to seeing all of them in action as the story progresses.
