It’s time to find the strength within ourselves and stand up for racial equality.
I am a writer and Marketing Manager at The Nerdy Girl Express. You can find me writing articles and tweeting about my favorite shows for the site.
But as a black person, I felt it was necessary to step away from the world of entertainment for a moment to address what’s been happening in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd. It is an emotional time. We’re filled with shock, disbelief, outrage and sadness. How could something like this happen? Why do things like this continue to happen?
As the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus sweeps through our world, we are encouraged to Stand Together because We’re In This Together. Sadly, COVID-19 isn’t the only infection the world is currently facing. The hate infection leading to the disease of racism continues to be an illness on the rise. There is no cure and it’s taking the lives of blacks in acts of senseless violence.
But there is a treatment that will slow and maybe someday put an end to the spread of racism. And that treatment is to show respect and compassion towards those who look different from you. Black or white, underneath our skin tones we are all human beings. Taking the time to get to know someone allows us the opportunity to appreciate differences. It also quells misconceptions based on ignorance often fostered by misinformation.
We at The Nerdy Girl Express accept everyone no matter of race, religion or sexual orientation. We support talent and creativity from all walks of life.
We stand with our black readers, writers, media and entertainment industry colleagues and everyone affected. Black Lives Matter.
But we don’t need to stand alone. You can join us and be ready to fight for what’s right as soldiers in the war on racism.
There are ways to make your voice heard. There are ways you can show your support.
Together we can make a difference.
