Nottingham Issue #1 Comic Book Review from @kleffnotes

If you love twisted fairy tales the new comic Nottingham, which releases on March 5th, is the perfect read for you. Blending noir and the figures of Robin Hood, Nottingham is a dark and eerie read that is pure delight. I love both new takes on fairy tales and noir style detective stories so this comic seems made for me.

The premise of the comic is that the Sheriff of Nottingham is currenlty hunting for a serial killer who has a penchant for killing tax collectors. As he continues his search he winds up becoming a target of England’s nefarious power-brokers and the terrorist organization known as the Merry Men. With their secretive leader Hood at the helm, the Sheriff has his work cut out for him.

While you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, the cover by Shane Connery Volk and Luca Romano was one thing that really made me want to check out this story. This cover is then perfectly matched by the inside art and colors by the same artists. Joamette Gil’s lettering also matches the tone in a fantastic way. The story by David Hazan is a great twist on the Robin Hood legend with characters acting in a malicious and deadly way. There is deception and mystery throughout and I had an absolute blast reading this first issue and am looking forward to more. You can find Nottingham Issue One available tomorrow.
