As you might have heard, Netflix will be releasing the remake series of Voltron on June 10th. I thought it would be appropriate to pay homage to one of my favorite shows that I grew up watching.
On this weeks installment of The Crafty Geek, I am going to show you how to make your own Voltron stamp! If you’d like to make this creation, here are the things that you will need:
- Foam Sheets (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
- Voltron logo
- scissors
- craft knife
- glue
- wood block
First things first, you will need to google an image of the Voltron logo. Google is your best friend for stuff like this! We are making a stamp so make sure your design is backward that way when you use your stamp the word will be facing the correct direction. I made a little booboo when I was making this the first time. The yellow sheet of foam has a self-adhesive backing and I put my design on the front so that when I took the backing off it was facing the right way instead of the wrong way (notice the first picture below; don’t do what I did, flip the paper over and trace it on the back). Once your image is traced, it’s time to cute it out.
When each letter is cut out, use the craft knife to cut out the small holes in the o’s and the r. Arrange the letters according to your original design on a second sheet of foam and stick them down. If you don’t have foam with adhesive backing, just use some glue. Then you will want to cut around the design. Again, make sure that your design is backwards so that when you go to use your stamp the design is facing the correct way!
Next, take the wooden block and glue your foam to it. I drew the Voltron logo on the top of the block so you know what the stamp is. You don’t have to do this part, but I thought it would be fun and make it look a little more like a real stamp. The wooden blocks I found at Hobby Lobby in the woodworking section. They were only $2.99 for a pack of 4 so you can make more stamps of course! The Foam sheets are also very cheap. They were only $0.89!
Once the glue has dried completely you are ready to stamp to hearts content! I didn’t have an ink pad that was big enough so I just used some paint and I think it worked out pretty good if I do say so myself!
This project is definitely on the easy skill level and will be a fun one to do with the kiddos! The great thing about this, is that you can make anything you want! Remember to use your imagination and just have fun!
Let me know what you think about this DIY in the comment section below! And make sure to tune in to Netflix on June 10th for the arrival of Voltron: Legendary Defender!
