On January 13, Shonda Rhimes celebrates her birthday.
Rhimes is the creative genius behind such shows as Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder. The characters she has brought to the television screens have displayed strengths but are also flawed, which make them relatable to audiences. Additionally, Shonda Rhimes has been an advocate and supporter of diversity in the entertainment medium. She shows that through hard work, achievement is possible and is a positive role model to those looking to enter the difficult field of entertainment. As female writers and executive producers number far less than their male counterparts, with this number being reduced further by minority females serving in this realm, Shonda Rhimes is an inspiration.
She has received numerous accolades for her work as well as nominations (and wins) of awards like the Primetime Emmy, GLADD Media, NAACP Image, Producers Guild of America and Writers Guild of America.
She has a production company, ShondaLand, which is responsible for many of her shows. Shonda Rhimes is a powerhouse and shows no sign of slowing down. Rhimes is determined to change the face of television, one series at a time.
