When the 2020 Daytime Emmy Nominations were announced on Thursday, May 21, 2020, General Hospital received a total of 23 nominations.
In this article, our writer Stacy Miller takes a look at Outstanding Supporting Actor Nominee James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine).
James Patrick Stuart is a daytime veteran. He first made his mark in soaps playing dastardly villain Will Cortlandt on ABC’s All My Children. That character’s demise set off a major murder mystery “Who Killed Will Cortlandt?” back in the 1990s.
Currently Stuart appears on General Hospital as Valentin Cassadine. Some can call Valentin a villain and it’s true he’s done questionable things. But behind the once Cassadine (He was revealed not to be Mikos Cassadine’s son but Helena’s) lies a man who despite mistakes will do anything for those he loves (His daughter Charlotte and ex-wife Nina).
Stuart’s acting range allows him to show two sides of Valentin’s personality. His talent allowed him to play opposite two different Ninas (Michelle Stafford and Cynthia Watros) without skipping a beat. As Valentin, James Patrick Stuart can convey more in his eyes without a word of dialogue. That’s not to say emotion doesn’t flow from his words. In addition to his film, daytime and primetime roles, Stuart has worked as a voice actor on many projects.
And who could forget Valentin’s profession of his love for Nina at the Nurses Ball? In addition to his skill as an actor, James Patrick Stuart is also a gifted musician.
Wishing James congratulations on his nomination!
