We here at the Nerdy Girl Express have long awaited a premiere date for the upcoming series Damien. There have been several small trailers, a comic-con panel and other tidbits here and there, but A&E has been pretty quiet otherwise on their newest show. Finally we have received official word on the show along with not only a premiere date, but also a new full length trailer! Check out the video and more information.
Anyone who hasn’t heard of this series yet, needs to know that this follows the horror classic 1976 movie, The Omen. It is a direct sequel where we again find Damien Thorn, but he is now all grown up (played by Bradley James best known for his role as King Arthur on the English BBC series Merlin) and has no idea who he really is. Forces start to come together and are revealed to Damien and he must come to terms with who he is and what he is going to do about it being the Anti-Christ.
The show’s creator and executive producer is Glen Mazzaraa (The Walking Dead and The Shield) and the rest of the cast is star studded, including the before mentioned Bradley James (iZombie, Underworld 5) along with Omid Abtahi (Argo, The Hunger Games: MockingJay Pt II), Megalyn Echikunwoke (24, The 4400, CSI:Miami, 90210), Barbara Hershey (Once Upon A Time, Insidious, Black Swan) and David Meunier (Jericho, Revolution, Justified and Aquarius).
I’m really excited for this show to air. I’m a big fan of scary shows and Damien is right up any horror fans alley. You will be doing yourself a disservice not watching it. I’m also excited about the talented and diverse cast and crew. A show can have the best of intentions, but without the right people in place it won’t work out. This show has that ‘It’ factor that I think will be leaving audiences excited to see more and more episodes. Plus this is a great story. It not only brings in the plot from the original movie, but adds to it with the grown up Damien having to decide what’s going to happen and I’m sure we’ll see people on both sides trying to force or sway him to do what’s “right.” So far Bradley James has made me cry in both Merlin and iZombie with his character portrayals (in good ways!); I see no reason why he won’t go for lucky number three now. I will be anxiously awaiting this series with tissues in hand.
Damien will premiere on Monday, March 7th at 10:00PM on the A&E network. I will definitely be following this show and live tweeting the episodes.
