Podcast Suggestions from @kleffnotes

I have become really involved with listening to podcasts over the last couple of years. I actually think that’s pretty common for people in general, it feels like podcasts have sort of exploded within that time and more and more appear every day. I thought I would share the podcasts that I’m going to continue listening to this year as well as two that I know are tying up or have tied up.

The top of the list is a podcast that a ton of people listen to and that I actually got my mom to listen to as her first podcast, My Favorite Murder. This true crime comedy podcast has gotten so big that Karen and Georgia have written a book, slated to come out later this year, and they have gone on a number of tours. My mom and I haven’t been able to make it to one yet, but one of these days it is going to happen. The next very popular podcast I listen to is Welcome to Night Vale. Now I will say some of the stories they present I like more than others, but overall I really enjoy this twice a month series.

From within the Welcome to Night Vale network are two podcasts that I was recently listening to that are more limited series runs. The first is Within the Wires, which just had a third season. This story is set in a future world where the government is far more involved in people’s lives and each season has focused on different characters. The other podcast is Dream Boy. Now this one is a bit more mature and involves some graphic sexual dialogue, but it is so eerie and well performed that I always look forward to listening.

In keeping with scripted podcasts I want to mention the Alexandria Archives. This one goes up a bit irregularly, but any time a new episode comes out I always enjoy it. Morning Wood hosts a radio show for Alexandria University and ever episode also includes a creepy story from the archives. While this particular podcast isn’t scripted it does include writing and I have mentioned it so many times on this site, Queer As Fiction. The three hosts, all of whom you would recognize from Girl Ship TV, each write queer fan fiction every episode with a specific theme. They are so much fun! The one before the holiday hiatus was Spice Girl themed and it was just a delight.

The final two are both unscripted and while the themes are very different there are similar elements. Gotham Arcade is a comic book and video game themed podcast where friend Al and T chat about a specific comic or game each week. They are both so interested in what they are talking about that their passion shines through. The other is Coming Out With Lauren and Nicole. Again both are super passionate about what they are talking about, but the theme here is coming out stories. Each week they have a guest and they chat about that person’s coming out. Every episode is different and the two women are perfect hosts.

I’m sure I’ll be listening to more podcasts this year, but these are the basics for you. Let me know what you’re listening to, I’d love to hear.
