I had the opportunity to chat with Veronika Slowikowska about her upcoming part in the new FX series, What We Do In The Shadows. As a fan of the original film, I have been excitedly waiting for the release of the series and loved that I could get some insight into some of the things to come when the show releases on March 27th.
Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?
Hi! I’m Veronika Slowikowska, a actress/improviser/creator/person based in Toronto, Canada.
You are in the new series What We Do In The Shadows, can you tell me about your character Shanice?
Shanice is an awkward, insecure, sassy, LARPer (live action role player). Such a fun character to play!
How do you hope viewers react to the show?
Because the movie has such a cult following already, I know people’s expectations are high. Having Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi on board means we’re in great hands. It has the original film’s tone and humour but now adding the new cast, it takes it to a whole new level! I hope people enjoy it, laugh and embrace it as a show!
Had you ever watched the original?
Oh yes! Many times. I’m a huge fan and am just as excited for it to come out!
Are you a fan of vampire themed media? If so do you have any favorites?
I love the character Marceline, The Vampire Queen from Adventure Time. She’s awesome!
What can you tell me about your comedy troupe, with the very cool name, My Chemical Bromance?
My Chemical Bromance is a troupe my two best friends and I created about a year ago. We play three teenage drama nerds who take the stage by storm with songs and skits “the boys” wrote. From sword fighting, to robbing a bank, we turn everything into a very silly musical number. We performed March 8th and 16th at Toronto’s Sketch Festival.
You also recently released a teaser for a web series A Boy’s Memoir, what is that about and do you have any release information you can share?
Our web series ‘A Boy’s Memoir’ was birthed from our live act ‘My Chemical Bromance’. We play the same characters but in a low-fi web series. The boy’s high school musical gets cancelled so they take it upon themselves to write and perform their own mind blowing musical titled ‘A Boy’s Memoir’. We’ve applied to the IPF fund, so we have a little teaser online you can watch! Facebook at A Boy’s Memoir!
When you aren’t performing what are some of the things you do for fun?
Currently watching Fargo Season 3 (I know I’m late). My guilty pleasure is watching YouTube vlogs in my bed. Really into making homemade granola lately.
