Big Little Lies DVD and Blu-ray Release Review from @kleffnotes

*Disclaimer: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.*

The Monterey Five have returned and can be back on your screen today. The second season of Big Little Lies released on Blu-ray and DVD earlier this month and I finally had a chance to check it out. This season focuses on the repercussions the first season’s death has had on all of the women who were involved. Beyond expanding on each of the women’s storylines, they have also brought in a new lead character with Meryl Streep in the role of Mary Louise Wright.

This season gives us more insight into Bonnie and her connection with her mother, which pulls in a connection between her and Perry in a way. While he may no longer be physically in Monterey his memory is still very strong and further brought to light through Mary Louise. There are frequent flashbacks involving Perry and the twins, as well as glimpses of his relationship with Celeste as well as his mother. To pair with those flashbacks we also see Bonnie’s life with her mother and what we see is some level of similarity in their upbringing. As an element of plot this connection is curious and does push you to examine the influence others can have on your personality later in life. We also see Bonnie trying to fathom her feelings toward Perry’s death. This pushes her to a dark place, which allows Zoe Kravitz to delve into a different portrayal of the character.

The DVDs include all of the episodes as well as a bonus element that showcases the actresses and their thoughts on the series. “The Lies Revealed: A Conversation with the Cast” includes all of the lead women and gives them a chance to laugh and chat with each other about the series. If you enjoyed the lasted season and want to know more this is the perfect way to find out more about the series from the women themselves and also always have access to the episodes, even if  your internet goes down. You can get your copy of Big Little Lies on DVD or Blu-ray today wherever you purchase your TV shows.
