This weeks edition of The Crafty Geek we discover how to create a pendant that will detect poison ;).  If you watched last weeks episode of Outlander, then you might know what I’m talking about! After our leading lady Claire was poisoned (actually bitter cascara), her dear friend Master Raymond gives her a stone pendant that will detect any other poisons. Just the sort of thing someone Claire would need seeing that she seems to make enemies so quickly!

If you will be making this, here are the things you will need:

• Polymer clay (Frost White Glitter by Premo Sculpey)
• A bezel
• Ribbon
• Strong glue
• Foil

First take some of your clay and condition it until it’s softened up a bit. Then push it into the bezel. Spread the clay in the bezel but make sure it’s not totally even. We are going for a natural stone look.

 

Now that you have your clay in the bezel we will be texturizing it to look more like a rough cut stone. Take the foil and crumple it up. Push the foil slightly over the surface of clay changing up the directions now and again to make it look rough.

When you’ve finished texturizing your clay, it’s time to bake! Make sure your oven was pre-heated to 275 F degrees. Bake for 15 minutes. When it’s done baking let it cool down completely before handling. When it’s cooled down, take the clay out of the bezel and use a bit of the strong glue and glue the clay into the bezel.

For the final touch take your ribbon and attach the pendant onto it. And thats it! You’re done! 
You will be the envy of the other ladies at court because this necklace is stylish and yet no one will be aware of it’s other practical properties at detecting any unwanted poisons that might end up in your drink.
