Today is my big travel day so while I am flying back to my home state I thought I would do another Disney focused piece for you lovely readers. The month has just started so while you get yourself into the swing of 2018, why don’t you take a little time to enjoy a movie. I share some go to Disney movies that will add a smile to your face.
I will admit the first on my list is The Great Mouse Detective, which I talked about in detail yesterday. It remains my favorite Disney movie and is definitely something you should try and watch, especially if you haven’t seen it before. My next suggestion is about to get the live action treatment, The Lion King. I used to watch this movie all the time when I was younger and I had the soundtrack, which I listened to on so many car trips on my little Walkman. No matter how old I get I still absolutely love Scar and have randomly burst out into a less than charming version of Be Prepared when I’m hanging out by myself. When I was little I even had a Scar plush that I would play with. If you really want to dive into Lion King nostalgia you should watch the original sequel, The Lion King 2. I had that on vhs as a kid too and remember watching it as much as I watched the original. I’m also a fan of some of the more recent Disney movies and when I still worked at a video store I would frequently throw in Wreck-It Ralph during my shifts. What I love about this movie is that the focus isn’t on romance, but is instead on understanding who you are and how you can make a difference in the world. Ralph feels trapped as a villain and as he tries to become a hero he begins to understand who he is outside of the confines of his game. I also love his interactions with Vanelope and their friendship makes me smile, though no matter how many times I watch it I always tear up when he wrecks her car.
For those who are fans of the Disney princesses I have some suggestions for you too. My favorite princess continues to be Belle, though she has had some stiff competition in recent years. There is something so wonderful about curling up to rewatch the original Beauty and the Beast, though I do really enjoy the live action version with Emma Watson too. I used to sing along to the soundtrack so often that I knew exactly when to use different voices during group songs. This movie also happens to be my mom’s favorite as well as Krista’s favorite. While I was preparing this article I did ask for some additional recommendations and Frozen and Tangled came up. I have watched Tangled a number of times and Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi do a fabulous job as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Their connection in the movie is so sweet and they perform so well. I also love the very sassy Pascal. Frozen also involves some very strong performances and when this came out I was excited to see a story focused more on sisters and less on romantic relationships. I also just love Kristen Bell so it’s impossible for me not to like this movie.
Let me know some of your favorite Disney movies or if you also love some of the same ones as me, I’d love to know.
