ClexaCon is next week!!!! Are you ready?!?! Okay, I am being a bit extreme on the exclamation points, but I am so freaking excited because in just a little over a week I will be surrounded by queer women and chatting about all the things I love in the wonderful environment that is ClexaCon. If you’ve never been to a convention before or even if you’ve been to one before and are feeling a bit anxious I have some tips for avoiding nerves while you get your con on.
Make sure you have everything packed and ready in plenty of time. I’m a bit paranoid when I travel, okay basically all the time, but traveling makes me even more paranoid. Make sure that you have all of you tickets, ID, and any paperwork you need prepped and ready. This might mean printing them out and putting them in a folder, I’ve done that with somethings, or just making sure you have everything ready to go on your phone. Definitely have the Eventbrite app downloaded, you might decide to order an additional ticket or need to refer to your tickets while you are there.
Have an extra outfit ready. Whenever I travel I grab an extra outfit just in case something happens to my clothes. If you are checking a bag for a flight, make sure to put that extra outfit in your carry-on. Normally bags don’t get lost, but just in case you don’t want to be stuck in your travel outfit the entire weekend if something happens to your suitcase.
Try not to get star struck. Okay, I know that one is super hard, but if you are meeting a celebrity you are super impressed by try to keep your cool. Stay polite and do your best to keep your cool. When in doubt ask how they are enjoying the convention or focus on something you enjoyed from the show they are there for.
Pack some emergency cash. Also make sure to let whatever company your card is through that you are traveling. I forgot while on a trip in New York and my card was randomly suspended for about 6 hours and it was only a little stressful.
Now the big one is have fun. I know I’ve mentioned that before, but ClexaCon is such an amazing experience and you will have a great time.
