Bizarre World examines the bizarre, creepy, and even sometimes hilarious customs from a variety of cultures throughout the world. Every society and culture deals with life differently and these can vary tremendously. In Scotland they celebrate the “blackening of the bride” and in Kenya they will not look babies in the eyes. There are even more including geese being part of the Chinese police force and chocolate sprinkles being served with breakfast in Amsterdam. This armchair travelers guide allows you to see the world and the surprising traditions that exist throughout it from the comfort of your own home.
E. Reid Ross has written a number of works that fall in line with the ideas presented in his most recent book, Bizarre World, which brings together the ideas of Atlas Obscura and 1001 Facts to Scare the Sh*t Out of You. Various cultures have their own ways of handling grief, beauty standards, food, parenting, death, stress, happiness, and even more elements of what happens in the journey of many people in this planet. Some of the customs in this book will seem perfectly normal, while you make think others are funny, strange, or weird. You can discover so much by delving into this book full of different ways of life and quick facts to help you learn more about the world around you.
I absolutely loved this book! I had so much fun going through this book and finding out new things about a variety of cultures. Like the idea of blood milk being used in Kenya for celebrations or for helping the sick. This product might seem odd as it often turns into a deeply colored curdled product, but even though it may not adhere to the ideas of standard foods those in this region never seem to have any issues consuming it. In Indonesia there is a practice of teeth sharpening and South Korea hosts karaoke business meetings. Can you imagine belting out “Don’t Stop Believin'” over spreadsheets? In Italy there are orange battles and not to leave the U.S. out of the discussion, you can chuck some enormous orange pumpkins in punkin’ chunkin’. If you love weird facts, fun trivia, or just knowing new and often bizarre things this is the book for you. Bizarre World is out and you can get your copy today!
