The beloved young adult series The Baby-Sitters Club is back in a brand new audio format. Audible is releasing all 131 books in new original formats, with the first five books being performed by Elle Fanning. The rest of the series will be performed by a variety of actors including Brittany Pressley, Ali Ahn, Emily Bauer, Lauren Fortgang, Bahni Turpin, Erin Moon, Stephany Einstein, and Vanessa Johansson. I grew up with this series and am delighted to have the opportunity to share details about the upcoming release of these titles on August 13th as well as my thoughts on two of the Audible Originals.
These important stories of strong friendship and young female entrepreneurship are full of fun and remarkable adventures. By releasing them as Audible Originals fans of the series, no matter what age, as well as new readers and listeners can have the stories of the Baby-Sitters Club in their ears as they go about their day. Elle Fanning commented on this new format for the series, “The fierce friendships and babysitting adventures of The Baby-Sitters Club have been so much fun to perform! It has been such an exciting and new experience for me to bring this entrepreneurial squad to life as Audible books. People can now relive these coming of age stories in a whole new way or enjoy them for the very first time!” I grew up with the stories of Kristy, Claudia, and all of the other members of The Baby-Sitters Club and as soon as I heard about this upcoming release I knew I would want to listen to them all. The sitters were girls to look up to, not only did they create a business they all had their own personal hobbies and goals.
Author Ann M. Martin commented on Audible Original release of her series “I’m thrilled to see that the readership for The Baby-sitters Club continues to grow after all these years. And I’m grateful and honored to hear from fans – young and old – who have supported the series with such affection, love and nostalgia for all things BSC. I’m excited that Audible will bring the books to life in a new format for the next generation.” I was able to listen to two of the upcoming releases in advance of the release, Kristy’s Big Day and Logan Likes Mary Anne. The first of these books is narrated by Brittany Pressley, who has done a number of other Audible voiceovers. She is able to provide great distinct voices for each character and her child voices are remarkably well done. Karen and Andrew both fit perfectly and her Kristy voice, which is the primary narration voice, fits with the voice I heard in my head growing up for the most opinionated of the baby-sitters. The second is voiced by Emily Bauer who uses a perfectly sweet voice for Mary Anne. Her kind tone and happy spirit feels exactly right for the character. Her voice might sound familiar to Pokemon fans as Dawn from that series, not to be confused with Dawn from the Baby-Sitters Club. Based on their performances I am excited to listen to the other Audible Originals to see how each these performances will differ.
