It’s hard to believe that Power Rangers has been on the air in one form or another for 22 years. In March, 2017, a new feature film hits the theater. The question is- How has it endured so long?
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered on August 28, 1993. It introduced a group of five ordinary teenagers from Angel Grove: Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Trini and Zack who are given technology called Morphers from a being named Zordon that allowed them to transform or morph into costume clad superheroes in order to save the Earth from evil space aliens/criminals. Aided by robot, Alpha 5 and equipped with amazing weapons and fighting machines called Zords, the Power Rangers defended the Earth and earned legions of fans.
The name of the Power Rangers series and members of Power Rangers team may have changed over the years but the series message remains the same. It’s basically that through team work, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. This is a theme that everyone can relate to regardless of gender and age. Although Power Rangers was envisioned as a children’s program for boys, it has transcended to include girl fans. Even teenagers and adults can’t get enough of the show. I think that the Power Rangers continued popularity and longevity is because ‘No matter what the odds are, the Power Rangers will never give up.’ And in a world where we hear about constant violence and dangers, it great to have a show that positively shows fighting for what’s right and good.
