Fans of Gilmore Girls know that Lorelai and Rory Gilmore share a close bond that goes above the standard mother/daughter relationship. Below is a fictional letter Lorelai writes her daughter telling her how she feels.
Dear Rory,
Sometimes the best things in life are unplanned. I should know because that’s what happened for me when you were born.
When I found out I was pregnant, I freaked. How was I going to be a mother when I was a child myself? Worst, how would I tell my parents? I was already a disappointment to Emily and Richard, not the ideal daughter they had in mind. I would definitely be an embarassment to them now. Once I told my parents, they began taking control of my life. My father decided that Christopher and I would marry and he would go to work for my dad’s insurance firm. They didn’t care that this wasn’t what I wanted.
So, I took you and made a life for us on my own. It was the best decision I ever made. And with you, I hit the jackpot, kid. How did I end of with a child like you? I often wondered who was the mother and who was the daughter? You took care of me as much as I took care of you. I also got a best friend and the sister I never had rolled into one. Coffee drinking, junk food, movie night…these are the best.
When we were separated after everything that happened with Logan and Yale, it was the worst time of my life. A part of my heart was missing. I never, EVER want to go through that again.
Now, you are on your own pursuing your dreams. Can you say proud mother?
Thanks kid for coming into my life and making it better. Rory, I Love You
Mom
