The absolutely brilliant musical comedy Galavant returned Sunday, January 3 with its Season 2 Premiere and the show rewarded fans with two highly enjoyable episodes. It was a rip roaring good time.

It seems like hardly any time has passed since we’ve seen our favorite Galavant characters. Isabella is still being held captive with Galavant determined to rescue her. And King Richard is still (in my opinion) the funniest character on the show. Timothy Omundson delivers his lines with a flair worthy of a king…of comedy. I find myself watching with eager anticipation to hear what words Omundson’s King Richard would utter next. He and Joshua Sasse (Galavant) could have their own “buddy comedy”. As King Richard stated in the perfectly performed “It’s a New Season” opening number, he’s ‘The Hero’s BFF’. Seriously, what other show could give you a love song from the cast about their new season?
The musical numbers continue to highlight the story telling. I loved the “Off With His Shirt” number.
And the lines? Amazing. The bit about The Enchanted Forest and The Evil Queen that lived there made me immediately think of a Galavant/Once Upon a Time crossover (which I expressed an interest in seeing via a tweet!) There wasn’t a moment in the two episode premiere in which I was bored, the actors on this show aren’t just playing a part, they ARE their characters.
I particularly loved the title of the first episode “It’s A New Season aka Suck It Up Cancellation Bear”. I couldn’t have said it better myself. The season premiere of Galavant proved it was worthy and deserving of its Season 2 renewal. So Cancellation Bear, you should lie down and hibernate, because you were definitely tired if you thought this show should be cancelled.
Galavant airs Sundays at 8/7c on ABC.
