When I first heard of Outsiders I wasn’t sure if I was going to watch it or not. However, the previews looked awesome. So of course when it premiered I gave the show a shot.
The show stars David Morse, Kyle Gallner, and Ryan Hurst just to name a few. They just aired the 3rd episode to the new backwoods hillbilly drama.
Now I’m going to be telling you the truth on how I felt about these first few episodes. The first episode was kind of slow, as we were just getting to know the Farrell clan. Not that they exactly gave us a huge huge backstory on them just yet.
The Farrells and the Shays have been living on Shay mountain for 200 years. They don’t go down the mountain, ever. They grow their own food, they have their own rules, and they stick to their own kind. They also make their own moonshine they call Farrell wine.
They have a leader, and elders, and their own little mountain meetings. So in the first episode a mining company buys the mountain land. They want the Farrells off the land so they can start mining and give people jobs. However there’s a deputy who knows that you don’t want to mess with the Farrells. He tells them straight up you don’t know who you’re messing with.
Now right away you know there’s something up with this deputy, you know there’s more to him and the Farrells than what meets the eye.
The company has the deputy post an eviction notice up on a tree close to where they live on the mountain.
Unfortunately, these are all mountain people and they don’t know how to read. Now the leader has them go get a man who was locked in a cage that turns out to be from the mountains but 10 years ago he left to check out the world down the mountain but apparently didn’t like it too much and came back and his punishment was to be locked up for 6 months.
The good thing about him leaving for 10 years he learned how to read and he lets the Brannan, the leader know exactly what it says.
Now the leader’s son wants to take over because she is getting real old in he’s pretty much a power-hungry hillbilly. Basically the first episode is like hey these are the Farrells and this is who they are and people want to get them off the mountain.
The second episode is also a little slow but you’re also still getting to know who these people are and what the hell’s going on. This time one of the Farrells comes down the mountain and sells a couple of bottles of the Farrell wine to the town’s drug dealer, the young Farrell met a town girl and wanted to take her out on a date. But when the dealer sells it to one of his customers, his customer ends up killing his father.
The PR rep for the company wants to take advantage of this and try to use this to get the Farrells off of the mountain. Half of the town wants the company to leave the Farrells alone, they been on that mountain longer than any of them have been living in that town. However, the other half wants them to get the hell off the mountain and let the mining company take it over so they can have jobs.
Third episode, company start trying to move into the mountains and the Farrells aren’t happy and they’re trying to come up with the plans to stop them.
Now see the guy who left and came back, Azra, I think that’s how you spell his name not sure, is pretty much the only one who can help them because he’s the only one with the damn halfway decent education. The leader’s son does not want this guy to have anything to do with the mountain or the families. Azra doesn’t listen and he goes down to the town meeting, and learns that as long as they’re on the mountain, there ain’t a damn thing the company can do. He speaks at the town meeting and what he says is actually pretty good but it pisses off half the townspeople and they jump him when he leaves.
Now these backwoods incest Hillbillies have nothing but fun. The Show is actually pretty decent, despite the obvious incest backwardness. If you can make it through the first two episodes of it being a little slow, the 3rd episode is definitely really getting into the story and getting really interesting. I’d recommend you guys give it a try.
