#Supernatural -#TheVessel Review via @stacyamiller85 @cw_spn #SPNFamily

Supernatural has used the term ‘vessel’ many times in the past to indicate the person being possessed.

This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t see the episode “The Vessel” please do not continue reading.

But this time, we got to see a different type of vessel, a submarine. The latest episode of Supernatural had Dean traveling back in time to 1942 in order to obtain the Hand of God, a very powerful weapon that could aid them in defeating Amara.

We also got to meet the very first Woman of Letters, Delphine played Weronika Rosati, a female Indiana Jones type. The majority of Dean’s storyline takes place aboard a WWII submarine, the USS Bluefin as he pretends to be one of the crew.  His ruse is quickly discovered and surprisingly, he shares the truth early on, which is not the patented Winchester way.

Jensen Ackles and Weronika Rosati had great chemistry and made Dean and Delphine two characters who understood each other as their missions were similar. It’s a pity that she was from the past as Sam and Dean and Supernatural for that matter, could use a strong female ally to help fight the good fight.

After several absent episodes, Casifer and Crowley made a reappearance.  How the mighty have fallen- Crowley is now a dog on a leash (literally) for Lucifer, who has taken over the mantel as King. He departs Hell when he receives a call from Dean, who needs Castiel’s assistance to find the Hand of God (exposition by Sam early in the episode helped to let the audience know about the weapon).

Sam and Dean explain to Castiel their plight. Dean tells Sam that he is going alone as Sam should remain in the present. Should something go wrong, Sam would be there to fight Amara. But I think Dean was still trying to protect his little brother. Plus, we know that Sam never gets to time travel anywhere cool (the exception being their Wild West adventure).

Unfortunately for Lucifer, he is unable to remain in the past with Dean, losing his chance to grab the Hand of God. So Sam and ‘Castiel’ hit the books.

However, Casifer becomes pissed and annoyed with Sam and reveals himself. Casifer tries to harness the power of Sam’s soul to join Dean in the past. But he has no intention of stopping there. He’s going to kill the younger Winchester.  Castiel emerges in time to save Sam’s life. I liked that Castiel fought and won control from Lucifer to save his friend.

I hope that the writers are somehow able to plot a way for Delphine’s return.  It would be a nice twist if she could be the key in helping Sam and Dean defeat Amara.

When Dean returns to the present, Lucifer gets him up to speed. But before the Winchesters are ‘devil chow’ Dean beams Lucifer away with the ‘Angel Be-Gone’ symbol.

Now, Sam and Dean have a three-fold problem: Defeat Amara, Defeat Lucifer and Save Castiel.  How are they going to do it?
