It may not have been my favorite episode of Supernatural, but the Season Three episode “Ghostfacers” will always be special to me as it introduced me to actor Austin Basis, who went on to play JT Forbes in Beauty and the Beast.

Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler were characters from Supernatural’s Season One “Hell House” who expanded their interests in ghosts to include producing a television show about the paranormal. They added team members Maggie, Spruce (played by Basis) and Corbett.

After the episode aired, the popularity of Ghostfacers resulted in a Webseries on thecw.com.  There was just something about Kenny Spruce, as played by Austin, that drew me to the character and the actor.  I think it’s because Austin has a sincerity in his performances that creates characters in which you feel as though you know them personally and want to befriend them.  The same can be said for Basis’ next character, Math in Life Unexpected.

But JT Forbes in Beauty and the Beast is the character that changed the lives of viewers by teaching us the true meaning of friendship.

I want to offer thanks to Austin Basis, you’ve inspired many to reach out to each other and helped encourage a community of caring.
