A Viewer’s Thoughts On @TheCW_Legends via @stacyamiller85 #LegendsofTomorrow

With eight episodes having aired of The CW’s DC’s Legend of Tomorrow, I thought it was time to give my impression of the series thus far.

This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t seen DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, please do not continue reading.

It tells the story of Rip Hunter’s search throughout time to stop criminal Vandal Savage from killing his wife and child and destroying the world. He enlists the help of characters from the universes of The CW’s The Flash and Arrow to enlist in his search and aid in the fight.

These include The Flash’s Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Mick Rory/Heatwave(Dominic Purcell), Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Jefferson Jackson/Firestorm (Franz Drameh) and Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl/Chay-Ara (Ciara Renee). Carter Hall/Khufu/Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) was killed but could return as the character has experienced many lives like Kendra and Arrow’s Sara Lance.

These characters have their own unique abilities but also come with personal baggage that sometimes threaten the team’s mission.

For example in a recent episode, Mick made an unholy alliance that put his loyalty to Hunter’s ‘Space Legends’ in question. Additionally, Leonard Snart was forced to chose between his oldest friend and his new allies. With Mick “left out in the cold” as it appeared that Snart used his heat gun and obliterated him.

A show about heroes traveling the galaxy isn’t actually new territory (Star Trek, anyone?) And one that includes time travel isn’t also uncharted waters or skies. So, how can DC’s Legends of Tomorrow remain original and hold viewer interest?

This is a question I have asked myself.  At this point in the series, my main reason for tuning in is Wentworth Miller. His snarky Snart is the highlight of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow for me. I find myself hanging on his every line. Don’t get me wrong, all the actors are doing a good job with their roles, but there’s something missing for me that I can’t quite put my finger on.

I’m hoping that as the series develops, I’ll be able to eagerly look forward to each new episode like I do with The Flash and Arrow.  After all, most of the characters from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow are transplants from these series.
