Have you ever thought about how most TV shows show us our doom? Almost everything on TV or movies is apocalypse type stuff. Yes, you have your rom-coms, your Sci Fi, dramas, etc but more and more are about our impeding destruction.

Granted, most of these apocalyptic shows are about zombies, I’m not actually talking about how we get to the destruction. My thoughts are more…..we’re screwed and everyone knows it. I know these things are suppose to be entertainment but really, have you ever sat and really paid attention to what we’re being shown?

Most all of these shows are showing us just how unprepared we are for end of the world type stuff. Power goes out, very few know what to do. No grocery stores, people starve, as again very few know how to hunt or even garden. Tons are killed because they don’t know how to defend themselves. Shoot, more than half of them don’t know how to camp as they’ve never been. More than half the world dies immediately upon disaster. No one is prepared for anything!

Now here’s where it gets me, they are showing us US! It’s really easy to say, you got this, you know what you’re doing, but do you really? Think about it, we’ve never been without all these things we’ve become accustomed to. We are too reliant on government and technology, we all know it. How many can read a map, without using mapquest? How many know how to get meat without a grocery store? How many know how to make shelter? How many can make a fire without a lighter or matches? What would you do with no running water? How many actually know how to do any of that and not just say they do?

Do any of you even have any pictures of your children not on phones and computers anymore?
Most kids wouldn’t know what to do as half of them only see the outside world on a brief walk to the car. We all work so hard to provide what we have, all these luxuries, but what happens when money doesn’t mean anything anymore? What happens when all the stupid crap we all fight about doesn’t matter anymore, then what?

All this political, racial, gender bullshit isn’t going to matter when shit hits the fan and those people are the only ones who have your back. I don’t know, I just think these shows are not just trying to entertain us but also educate us. Show us we’re not prepared for jack, get us off our asses, and learn something valuable. Teach us the human connection is the most important.

These are only MY thoughts and ramblings, but shows like these really make me think. I’m not saying anything will ever happen but it sure would be awesome if something did, we were actually prepared.
