It’s that time of the year again. The Emmy Awards air tonight.
Let’s take a look at the nominees as I try to predict the winners:
Drama Series
Nominees: The Americans, Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards
Predicted Winner: Game of Thrones
Why: Game of Thrones won an Emmy last year and I think it will continue its winning streak.
Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Nominees: Viola Davis, How To Get Away With Murder, Taraji P. Henson, Empire, Robin Wright, House of Cards, Claire Danes, Homeland, Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black, Keri Russell, The Americans
Predicted Winner: Viola Davis
Why: As Annalise Keating on How To Get Away With Murder, Viola Davis has given bone chilling performances. She has previously won the award so it would be a crime for her not to win again.
Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Nominees: Kyle Chandler, Bloodline, Rami Malek, Mr. Robot, Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul, Matthew Rhys, The Americans, Liev Schreiber, Ray Donovan, Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
Predicted Winner: Rami Malek
Why: Although I’d love to see Kyle Chandler win, my money’s on Rami Malek for his performances in Mr. Robot.
Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Nominees: Maura Tierney, The Affair, Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey, Lena Headey, Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke, Games of Thrones, Maisie Williams, Games of Thrones, Constance Zimmer, UnReal
Predicted Winner: Lena Headey, Maisie Williams (toss-up)
Why: It would be awesome if Constance Zimmer won for UnReal. As Quinn, the character has defined the strong, powerful, television executive. Plus, Quinn’s biting wit and great one-liners are priceless. However, I believe the winner will come from one of the Games of Thrones nominees.
Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Nominees: Jonathan Banks, Better Call Saul, Ben Mendelsohn, Bloodline, Peter Dinklage, Games of Thrones, Kit Harington, Games of Thrones, Michael Kelly, House of Cards, Jon Voight, Ray Donovan
Predicted Winner: Peter Dinklage
Why: I believe Games of Thrones will take home the acting awards this year and Peter Dinklage’s performance has been strong.
Comedy Series
Nominees: Black-ish, Master of None, Modern Family, Silicon Valley, Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Veep
Predicted Winner: Veep
Why: Veep always does well when it comes to awards and I can’t imagine it not taking home the win.
Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Nominees: Tracee Ellis Ross, Black-ish, Laurie Metcalf, Getting On, Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie, Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer, Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Predicted Winner: Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Why: I believe Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be the clear winner.
Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Nominees: Anthony Anderson, Black-ish, Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent, Aziz Ansari, Master of None, Will Forte, The Last Man on Earth, William H. Macy, Shameless, Thomas Middleditch, Silicon Valley
Predicted Winner: Jeffrey Tambor
Why: Tambor’s performance in Transparent will make him a hard one to beat.
Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Nominees: Niecy Nash, Getting On, Allison Janney, Mom, Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live, Judith Light, Transparent, Gaby Hoffman, Transparent, Anna Chlumsky, Veep
Predicted Winner: Judith Light, Anna Chlumsky (Toss-up)
Why: I see a toss-up in this category between Light and Chlumsky.
Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Nominees: Louie Anderson, Baskets, Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Keegan-Michael Key, Key & Peele, Ty Burrell, Modern Family, Tituss Burgess, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tony Hale, Veep, Matt Walsh, Veep
Predicted Winner: Matt Walsh
Why: Once again, I feel a Veep actor will win.
Limited Series or Movie
Nominees: American Crime, Fargo, The Night Manager, The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Roots
Predicted Winner: The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story
Why: Because The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story is the retelling of a real life tragedy brilliantly acted.
Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie
Nominees: Sarah Paulson, The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Audra McDonald, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, Kerry Washington, Confirmation, Kirsten Dunst, Lili Taylor, American Crime, Felicity Huffman, American Crime
Predicted Winner: Sarah Paulson
Why: Paulson turned out a powerful performance in The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story
Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie
Nominees: Bryan Cranston, All the Way, Idris Elba, Luther, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, Cuba Gooding Jr, The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Tom Hiddleston, The Night Manager
Predicted Winner: Bryan Cranston
Why: Bryan Cranston. The Breaking Bad actor always delivers stellar performances.
Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie
Nominees: Melissa Leo, All the Way, Regina King, American Crime, Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story: Hotel, Kathy Bates, American Horror Story: Hotel, Jean Smart, Fargo, Olivia, The Night Manager
Predicted Winner: Regina King
Why: King will duplicate her win for American Crime.
Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie

Predicted Winner: John Travolta
Why: The film actor will take home a television award.
