The Magical Creature David Anders

With the age of Netflix upon us, you get to dive into many shows and movies you’ve missed over the years. Sometimes you see actors in your current TV shows, in several former movies and/or shows. And sometimes, just sometimes you see just how talented an actor really is.

Now let me take you back to March, when the hit show iZombie started. Here we are meeting all these wonderful characters played by some amazing actors. This is where I first seen David Anders, who plays the witty villain zombie Blaine. Blaine is the that character you love to hate, yet if he wasn’t on the show it just wouldn’t seem right. I must say they definitely chose the right actor to play him. iZombie ended with a bang, literally,  and Blaine facing being a human once again.

During the hiatus of iZombie, I dove into Netflix and began watching some older shows that I have missed over the years. With the new show Heroes: Reborn, that I am now watching, I realized hey I’ve never seen the original Heroes, I need to binge watch it to really understand what is going on in this new show. (I’m so glad I did, with all these characters from the original) Finished season one and I’m hooked, I love it. Start season two and who do I see….David Anders…..playing a drunk British swordsman stuck in 1600’s Japan, who finds out after being shot by arrows, he can heal himself. So young, so baby faced. The accent was so spot on I had to look him up. To my surprise, he’s from Oregon! To an even greater surprise, he’s only a year older than me, sorry but I think it’s neat when actors I like are close to my age. Incase you’re wondering, he’s 34.

Now fast forward a few days. I’m watching older episodes of Criminal Minds, again another show that I adore. The team is looking for an unsub that kidnaps his victims, holds them captive, and immobilizes the victims, so he can do creepy sick things to them. One of the victims is found alive, but unable to move or speak due to the experiments the unsub has performed. Not only is this man now paralyzed, he’s had a camera put into his eye. Flash to a scene of the unsub, there he is David Anders again! The team catches up to him and he speaks. David Anders is doing a German accent!!! I’m thinking, are you serious right now, he can to German accents too! If you’re interested in watching that episode, it’s season nine episode three. Be warned, Anders is crazy creepy.

Now I’ve been on a mission to find everything he has been in. This man can do it all. One of those rare mystical creatures that can pull anything off and do a damn good job. The talent this man has in unreal.

Now let’s look at some of the shows and movies David has been in.

In 2001, he was cast as a high school senior in Olsen twins’ show So Little Time. Later that same year, he got the role as Julian Sark in Alias. He was only suppose to be a guest star but being the amazing actor he is, his character became a regular and lasted until 2006. During his time on Alias, Anders made a few guest appearances on a few shows. We will get to those in just a minute. Also in 2001, Anders appeared in The Source magazine, in an ad for rapper Canibus, where he portrays Eminem. In 2002, he played in an independent film called The Surge. He was a part of the film Circadian Rhythm. 2006, he worked in the film Left in Darkness. In 2007, he had the lead role in the movie ELI. He also was in Into The Blue 2: The Reef and The Revenant.

Now, I told you David Anders is a magical creature. Well, if you need further prove….the man has been in off-Broadway musicals. 2005 he was cast in Beautiful, a rock musical. He also had the lead role in the world premiere of Rockne: The Musical. He even appeared in The Diary of Anne Frank, for which he won an award for Best Ensemble performance.

So let’s dive into his many guest appearances.

CSI in 2004, as Travis Watson, episode “Crow’s Feet”

Charmed in 2005, as Count To get, episode “Show Ghouls”

CSI: Miami in 2005, as Brian Miller, episode “Felony Flight”

Deadwood in 2006, as an infantryman, episode “The Catbird Seat”

Grey’s Anatomy in 2007, as Jim, two episodes.

24 in 2010, as Josef Bazhaev, for six episodes

Warehouse 13 in 2010, as Jonah Raitt, episode “Where and When”

Undercover in 2010, as Matthew Hunt, episode “Assassin”

House in 2011, as Bill Koppelman, episode “Nobody’s Fault”

Arrow in 2013, as Cyrus Vanch, episode “Betrayal”

He also played John Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries for 13 episodes, as well as Dr. Viktor Frankenstein/ Dr. Whale in Once Upon a Time for 14 episodes.

David Anders can and has done it all. He can act, dance, and sing. I have seen him use several accents perfectly. Seriously, what can’t this magical creature called David Anders do?

If I have missed any shows or movies, please let me know, as I would really like to know everything this man has been in.
