For The Love Of The Older Characters On #The100

images (2)The social media buzz for The 100 is reaching new heights as Season 3 approaches.

Every one is eager to find out what will happen with their favorite characters especially Clarke and Bellamy, who have been shipped ‘Bellarke.’ But what about the characters that aren’t the teens?

As an older viewer of The100 , I’m just as interested in seeing how storylines for Abby, Kane and Jaha progress. I may be in the minority as a viewer but my least favorite aspect of the show is the shipping potential. Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, Lincoln and Lexa are attractive young people but I’d rather see their inner struggles than their outer romances. Additionally, I feel that the older characters often get sidelined.

Paige Turco is a powerful actress. Her Abby has made as equally the hard choices as daughter Clarke (Abby was almost floated twice aboard The Arc). I hope to see more of Abby dealing with life on the ground and adjusting to some of the estrangement she and Clarke suffered over the past two seasons.

Marcus Kane went from villain to antihero over the course of the series. He was a major foe to Abby in Season 1 as his hunger for power boarded on obsession. He was determined to be Chancellor and didn’t care what he did to achieve that goal. But after seeing hundreds of people on The Arc sacrifice their lives for the greater good, something changed in Kane. He became a better man. I’d like to see Henry Ian Cusick shine in the role. We know he is a talented actor from watching him on Lost.

Isaiah Washington has created a tortured character in Thelonious Jaha. He has many crosses to bear for decisions he made as Chancellor, including guilt over his son Wells’ murder. The Season 2 finale saw Jaha facing an interesting development in The City of Lights. I for one was confused and will be intrigued to see what it all means.
