#VRTroopers: The Forgotten Stepchild of #PowerRangers

downloaddownload (1)Remember Saban’s VR Troopers? No? You’re probably not alone.  While Saban’s sister series Power Rangers gathered legions of fans and remains one of the all time favorite children’s programs, VR Troopers is just a blirp. Those who even remember it feel that VR Troopers was a poor imitation.

See if this stirs any memories:

Still, no? Whereas “Go Go Power Rangers” is widely recognized, the theme for VR Troopers is virtually (no pun intended) unknown.  A few weeks ago I wrote about The Long Legacy of Power Rangers.  VR Troopers had a very short shelf life. The series lasted for only two seasons from September 3, 1994 to February 21, 1996 before the cost of producing it became too much to justify a renewal.

VR Troopers told the story of three young adults Ryan, Kaitlin and JB who were martial arts instructors that inadvertently discovered a virtual world that could be accessed via VR (Virtual Reality) goggles. Apparently the virtual reality world played a role in the disappearance of Ryan’s father, a brilliant scientist. The trio found themselves up against an evil alien mutant known, Grimlord in the virtual world was was billionaire Karl Ziktor in his human form.  To make a long story short, Ryan, Kaitlin and JB use the VR googles, get powers, armor and weapons sort of like the  Power Rangers that enable them to fight Grimlord’s army of mutants.

Actress Sarah Brown, who played Kaitlin went on to originating the role of Carly on General Hospital where she earned a Daytime Emmy Award.
