#iZombie Returns but on Hiatus Again

Last night we saw the return of iZombie with their newest episode, ‘Method Head.’ It was indeed method and full of so many funny and touching moments that I hope I can remember them all for you. It was a bowlful of ‘mental pork rinds’ as the good doctor Ravi Chakrabarti would say. Then we’ll get into iZombie’s ratings and CW’s strange and worrying behavior with the shows scheduling.

We started off with ‘Method Head’ and Ravi wanting to talk to both Liv and Major. It is the very next day from when the last episode had ended. Liv and Major have just broken up (they had zero chemistry sitting on the couch which was interesting) and Ravi had found out about New Hope. Ravi reveals that the cure is ineffective and that New Hope has been turned back into a zombie rat and that this more than likely means Major will too. He takes the news surprisingly well as he has only before showed disgust or discomfort about zombies. Liv seems a little more upset, always hopeful for a cure, and ends up going to see Blaine to tell him about this new development. He too will become a zombie again. We see some more of Blaine’s ‘work’ and we find out Chief is actually alright, and has a new eye patch. Anyone else relieved to see the big guy okay?

Next we go to Zombie High. A TV show about zombies. Yes a show about zombies on a zombie show. So method. It’s only the beginning though. One of the actors ends up being shot for real instead of with a fake bullet. He does such a good job of dying that no one realizes it’s real for a few minutes. Clive is called in to investigate and so is Ravi and Liv (who is very excited as she’s a big fan), but for medical examining purposes. We see Clive at first shut Liv down, bringing back all our heartache at seeing Piggy and the Brain broken up. Liv reminded me of a kicked puppy and Clive seems to be a secret softy because he relents and lets Liv help. Ravi looks so proud. Clive and Liv find out that it had to be someone regularly on set that is the murderer and soon find that there are several suspects.

Meanwhile we get back to Major. He takes a big step with Max Rager when Vaughn decides to test his loyalty after Gilda mentioned he’s easy to manipulate. A scientist gives Major a file and tells him to tell the press if he disappears, because he’s going to try and out Max Rager. Major does the opposite and tells Vaughn what’s going on. I admit I was fooled into thinking Major was switching sides (I blame his many past bad decisions on coloring my insight), but it’s soon revealed the whole thing was a trick to see what Major would do and he passed the test. Major knew it though and not only that he gave Vaughn a new fitness bracelet (much like a fitbit) that is actually bugged so he can hear and see them from his own computer. Tricky, tricky Major.

Agent Dale goes and meets with Blaine at his funeral home after his number came up twice from two of the disappeared rich people (who we know of course are zombies that needed a delivery). Blaine is able to talk his way out of it, but when Dale returns to the police station and talking with Clive she realizes that his old suspect is the same man she had spoken to and that it’s too strange of a coincidence. They’re on to him now. Blaine will have to step lightly. Mr. Boss is after him. The police are after him. Major would take him out if he remembered Blaine existed (seriously what’s up with that?) and Liv is only a neutral acquaintance at this point. Plus if his dad ever unfreezes he’ll have him to worry about too.
Liv and Clive are still figuring out the TV murder as we watch the TV murder and Liv (having eaten the actor’s brain) is going very method acting, while acting. Seriously this show couldn’t stop with the method jokes and everyone on twitter while live tweeting it couldn’t get enough of it! They figure out their culprit and in true iZombie fashion, get him to confess. Clive and Liv are back together again solving crimes, Ravi is working on a new cure (which involves a lot of digging), Major is spying on Max Rager with I’m not sure what kind of plan and Blaine is being his evil sinammon bun self.

Overall I give the episode 9 out of 10 this time. The writers were on point and the actors were all nailing their lines. It was a great show and that’s what makes me so sad that the CW has decided to put it on hiatus AGAIN. After having it gone most of December and almost half of January we won’t get to see the next new episode until February 2nd. This is being done so that CW can showcase its new superhero show Legends of Tomorrow and other DC superhero shows. This is ironic since iZombie is being bumped but is also a DC show.

iZombie has had trouble not keeping the same ratings as last season, but has held firm and still done better than other CW shows. It’s surprising to me that they would do this to a successful show and it almost seems like they want it to be cancelled. I hope this isn’t the case as I love iZombie and its ratings hit a solid .5 last night per TVSeriesFinale.com. This is about the ratings it’s held all season and is good since it’s been on such a long hiatus, but to do it again? Will iZombie be able to survive? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, watch iZombie on Netflix, watch it on the CW’s app. Complain at CW about why iZombie isn’t on at their twitter @CW_Network. And of course watch it when it comes back on February 2nd! Let the CW know how much we love this show and want a third season.

Finally I’ll leave you guys with some of the hilarious lines that iZombie gifted us with last night.

– “Well there it is. The most famous junk in America…Cover it up, cover it up!”
– “Why would you pierce that?…It’s called a Prince Albert.”
– Just Clive eating all the free food, it was hilarious
– “There making another Power Rangers movie?” (Actress Rose McIver was a power ranger)
– “It’s like mental pork rinds, I can’t stop!”
– Ravi and Liv fangirling and talking about shipping on Zombie High “I’d ship them but he’s dead!”
– “Tax Breaks” on iZombie making fun of itself by explaining why Zombie High was filmed in Seattle but says it’s in Portland when iZombie is filmed in Vancouver but says its Seattle.
– “You know what would be fun? A zombie show where the zombie is the star…That’s dumb.”
– “Dear departed Marlon Brandouche”
– “Zombies kind of freak me out…”
– “Has anyone showed you how zombies walk?” when one of the fake zombies assumes Liv is also a fake zombie
– “Major is a problem…A major Major problem or a minor Major problem?”
– “Bimbos and Himbos”
– “She’s seen all the episodes…on purpose!”
