The characterizations where the people we know and love were different versions on Earth 2 from what we know on Earth 1 was great. From Iris being the Detective West in the family to Caitlin and Ronnie being the evil meta humans, the changes were perfect. I know West-Allen fans shouted for joy that Barry and Iris were married and who didn’t smile at the singing talents of Earth 2’s Joe?
Barry was amused by his Earth 2 doppleganger, who he had to impersonate in order to obtain intel. Though, it was heartbreaking watching him get to talk with his mother on the phone knowing that she is dead on his Earth and he would never get that chance there. Who didn’t want to reach into their television screens and give Grant Gustin (I mean Barry) a hug?
Viewers know that Barry is like a son to Joe. But on Earth 2, Joe doesn’t like him. This was an interesting twist. However after Earth 2’s Joe was shot and knew he was dying, he made peace with Barry, wanting him to promise to take care of Iris. But one thing remained the same on both Earths- Barry’s feeling that the Wests are his family.
The Meta Humans wore the familiar faces of Caitlin (as Killer Frost) and Ronnie’s Deathstorm. I enjoyed seeing Danielle Panabaker play a different type of Caitlin. Killer Frost was sexy evil. Her makeup and costume were awesome. Though I felt Robbie Amell was a little over the top, almost appearing cartoonish in his villainy.
But Killer Frost and Deathstorm were only low level Meta Humans working under Cisco’s evil doppleganger, Reverb. Kudos to Carlos Valdes. I’ve gotten so used to Cisco as the genius, computer nerd, seeing him as a leather wearing villain with a ponytail and attitude felt like another actor playing the part. Cisco can turn evil anytime in my book!
Zoom arrives and is not pleased that his orders were disobeyed.
Meanwhile, let’s not forget we do have an Earth 1 with its own set of problems to deal with (I almost did forget as I was really interested by what was happening on Earth 2). Jay had to be The Flash there and was able to be Barry’s stand-in with the help of Velocity7. Jay battled Geomancer, but I really didn’t care too much about this as I was eager to get back to Earth 2.
Viewers were left with a cliffhanger: Zoom has captured and imprisoned Barry along with Wells’ daughter. Will they be able to escape?
“Welcome to Earth 2” was my favorite episode of Season 2. I can’t wait to see the conclusion to this stellar television outing.
