Okay, I’m about to do some Lucifer fangirling, well maybe theorizing is a better way to explain it. While I was watching Lucifer this week, which I recapped yesterday, I got to thinking about why Chloe doesn’t react to Lucifer’s powers the same way that everyone else does. I tweeted about it with a couple people, but I thought I’d share my ideas with you guys and see what you think.
Now if you have been watching Lucifer you know that our title character has the ability to get people to share their deepest desires and act upon them. Well, everyone except Detective Chloe Decker. Lucifer has been solving crimes with the detective and no matter how many times he tries he just can’t get his powers to work on her. He tried to solve that by getting her to sleep with him, but she totally wasn’t interested, even when he was standing naked in front of her. Near the end of the episode Lucifer convinces Chloe to shoot him because he insists it won’t hurt him because he’s immortal and she believes him, but only because she just saw his eyes flash a hellish red color first. What happens though freaks out even our prince of darkness. Lucifer starts bleeding and actually falls over from pain. Now I have a theory about why Lucifer’s powers don’t work correctly when Chloe is involved.
Before the shooting, Chloe revealed that she doesn’t believe that a place of eternal punishment exists, which also means that she doesn’t believe that Lucifer exists. I realize she sees Lucifer all the time, but she just thinks he’s a normal guy with a weird persona. My theory is that Chloe not believing that Lucifer is the real Lucifer or in Hell at all actually stops Lucifer’s powers from working. Sort of like in Peter Pan where if you don’t believe in fairies Tinkerbell starts to die. Since he can’t get Chloe to believe in him he’s becoming more human, but you see I think she will find herself believing.
My thought is that in the finale something crazy will happen and Lucifer will go all out with his powers and Chloe will suddenly find herself believing in everything. Now assuming the show gets renewed the second season would be all about Chloe coping with her belief in Lucifer, I’m guessing she’d waffle between believing and thinking she’s crazy, and Lucifer dealing with knowing that Chloe does something to his powers when she is around him. I think they could go see Dr. Linda for sort of couples therapy. It would be great!

Your theory is way cooler than mine! I thought she was just the rare honest person and didn’t have any deep, dark, secret desires-so his power couldn’t work.
