This past weeks episode of Black Sails truly cemented what side everyone would be on for this upcoming war. Enemies and alliances were made. Spoilers ahead.
We find out that Woods, Eleanor and Max have come up with a lie to get Anne to give up her and Jack’s gold. It’s a terrible one that I don’t see how Anne or Jack will be able to forgive Max for should they find out. Knowing how close the two are, they told Anne that they were torturing Jack and that he wouldn’t give Anne up. Max knew this would tear Anne up and she’d eventually give in. She was correct and a deal was made for her to return the money in exchange for Jack. What’s worse is that they had no intention of ever giving him back.
Jack finds out their plan and tries to guilt Rogers some, asking him if he has a wife. He does and Jack asks him how she would feel if she had been lied and manipulated to betray him. Rogers has no answer to this, but I was still grossed out to learn he’s married and has been carrying on with Eleanor. Okay, so this is probably one of the tamer romances on this show, but Rogers is supposed to be this stand up man and governor, but every new episodes brings out more and more bad things about him.
As Jack said, “We’re all villains in Nassau. Don’t think because you’re new you’re any different.”
Max and Eleanor make peace of some sorts with each other, mostly over drinking and Max being tired of how hard it is to hold on to her position and that she understands why Eleanor did the things she did. Max also tells her what people are saying about her and Rogers and how easily that could upset his power. I’m not sure how that didn’t occur to either of them, but it doesn’t seem to matter as they still go on about their affair.

Flint and his crew arrive back at Nassau finally and have Silver go in with Billy and a few others to tell them that Flint was alive and that he was very unhappy with them for siding with Rogers. Silver does an impressive performance, but then Dufresne comes out of the shadows. He is just as bitter towards them and Flint as he has always been and makes some disparaging remarks about not only Flint but now Silver too. Mostly about him being an invalid and half a man now.
Unlike Flint who has always ignored it when possible, Silver takes things to a whole new level. He bashes Dufresne with a pitcher and then stomps his head in with his peg leg. I was all out of sorts watching it. I didn’t think that was how his story would end or that Silver would go that dark. Flint is definitely rubbing off on him. After that the point is definitely made though and Silver says he has a ‘long’ memory after taking the book with all the names of everyone who received a pardon. I guess this is where we get Long John Silver.
Meanwhile Madi and her people gather as many weapons as they can from her fathers connections on the island and they all return to Flint and the ship. Flint wants to make sure Silver is alright after doing that and its a hint of the man that he used to be, that maybe isn’t as dead as Thomas and Miranda. They wait until the morning and see who shows up to sign up with Flint.
There is no one on the beach tho as Rogers had gotten wind of this and with Max’s help stopped people from going through shame. Flint himself goes and speaks with him and tells him that he wants to take England down because of how it showed itself, how it took his loved ones from him. Rogers says if he’s to be the villain he will play the part well and he has now made a terrible enemy in Flint.

The final part of the episode that locks in where Anne plays a part in all of this, we see her make the trade for Jack and allows the English to take her gold. They don’t give her Jack though and it was strange to see her let them go. Of course earlier Vane had coerced Featherstone and Adele to help him find out what was going on and he had warned her. They entire thing was a ruse to make Rogers think he had won.
All of Rogers’ enemies meet on Flint’s ship and its decided that they need the gold to fund their war and they also need Jack. Luckily for them both are to be transported the next day. So the plan is to either get them both, or have nothing. Rogers enemies are strong with Flint, Silver, Vane and Anne all working together. Rogers, Max and Eleanor also don’t know that Featherstone and Adele are sympathetic to Flint’s cause. It puts our pirates in a great position.
