Layered Characters On #OnceUponATime via @stacyamiller85 @OnceABC #OUAT

Once Upon A Time is a show that takes what we know about fairy tales and other fantasy worlds, like Neverland and Wonderland, and turns that information on its ear by offering viewers compelling storylines and layered characters.

Characters like Snow White, The Evil Queen and Captain Hook aren’t the one dimensional versions we may remember from the stories. They are flawed human beings who have made both good and bad choices that continue to shape them and aid in their growth.

Snow White is not just that princess with the creamy complexion and rosie lips we’ve read about. She’s a hero and sometimes rogue who fights for what she believes in and those she loves. As played by Ginnifer Goodwin, she’s made mistakes and harbors guilt.

Lana Parilla’s Regina aka The Evil Queen may have began on Once Upon A Time as the jealousy filled ruler we remember from the fairytale but over time, she’s changed into a woman of integrity. She loves her son and strives to be good for his respect. She knows right from wrong and although tempted on occasion to cross that line, for the most part, she has stayed on the side of good.

Captain Hook from Peter Pan was the pirate with the hook for a hand and a fear of the crocodile who eat his hand and swallowed a clock. Once Upon A Time’s version is a charming scoundrel named Killian Jones, who fell in love with the show’s hero Emma Swan.

Speaking of Emma Swan, she’s the new character to the fairy tale universe created entirely for Once Upon A Time. A former bounty hunter, Emma has been tortured over her past mistakes. She was expected to be The Savior but more time than not required saving from herself.

These characters and many more on Once Upon A Time help to transcend the show above the expectation.
